Common questions

What do I need to run CaptionPeel?

macOS 15.0 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. CaptionPeel needs no account, special hardware, or network connection.

What kind of captions can it extract?

CaptionPeel reads text that is already visible in the video frame, such as burned-in subtitles. It does not transcribe audio or translate subtitles.

How do I extract captions?

Open or drop a video into CaptionPeel, draw the selection around the visible caption area, choose an optional scan range, and select Extract Captions. Review the generated cues before exporting an SRT.

Does my video leave my Mac?

No. Video frames and recognized text are processed locally with Apple frameworks. CaptionPeel does not upload videos, captions, or usage data.

The OCR missed or misread a cue.

Try adjusting the caption-region selection so it includes the full subtitle without extra picture. You can also re-read an individual cue and edit its text or timing before export.

Reporting a problem

Please include your macOS version, CaptionPeel version, video format, approximate video length, caption language, and what you expected to happen. Do not attach a video containing sensitive material.
